Cynthia's Profile

Bio:

Inspired by the difficult birth of her third child and a growing, deep concern for the state of the world in which we are raising our children, Cynthia took a risk to fulfill a dream: to integrate her design skills with the movement towards socially responsible consumerism. Cynthia opened JAMES, a fair trade design boutique in November 2006 and has become increasingly passionate about the concept of responsible profitability.

In 2007 Cynthia began the development of TABLE and the concept of a ‘Community Supported Market’ modeled on food coops and ‘community supported agricultural’ took shape. Over a year of planning and financing has finally cumulated in the opening of TABLE in March 2009. It was with the continued support and encouragement from the community and beyond that this concept of a local community owning their local food system could become a reality.

Cynthia is passionate about the potential of design, craftsmanship, and the handmade in both art and food to positively impact society. She brings her design background to the fair-trade movement, having graduated from Rhode Island School of Design and the New York Botanical  Garden. Growing up in Iran and Italy, she gained an appreciation for other cultures and their traditions including art, craft, and food. She spent 5 years in retail as a manager at Felissimo, NYC and 10 years working as a designer with Patrick Brennan Architect. Cynthia continues to offer interior design services with a focus on sustainability. She is involved with several non-profit organizations in Northern Westchester and serves on the board of the Katonah Museum of Art.
